8 Addictions You Must Overcome
To Better Yourself!
1. Cell Phone
Phone addiction is real and dangerous. Technology can perform miracles, make life easier, and boost you development in unimaginable ways, yet we mostly use to to consume unproductive content.
Try this:
1. Turn off your phone 1 hour before bed and don’t turn it back on until 1 hour after waking up.
2. Stop following all the pages and people that aren’t motivating you to improve or adding value to your life. Everything else is just wasting your time. Change your algorithms to beneficial content.
2. Complaining:
Complaining might seem harmless, but over time, it trains your brain to look for the negative side of everything.
Try this:
Wear a rubber band on your wrist. Every time you complain, stretch it and let it snap back. The first time it only hurts for a few seconds, but it will hurt more each time… You’ll become much more aware.
3. Waiting for Perfect Conditions
There’s someone out there far less qualified than you, living the life you want, simply because they took action.
Try this:
Jeff Bezos’ 70% rule – act when you have 70% of the information you’d ideally like to have.
4. Comfort
The comfort zone is where dreams go to die. You don’t need to jump off a cliff, but you do need to get a little closer to the edge to have a better view.
Try this:
Use the 85% rule – learning is optimized when we do things right about 85% of the time.
5. Multitasking
Whether it’s writing, reading, or even watching a movie, partial focus leads to partial results.
Try this:
Fully concentrate on whatever you’re doing and stop overstimulating yourself. Occasionally, do activities with your complete attention, like going to the gym without music, doing your homework without checking your phone even once, or eating without watching TV – until you can master it without feeling anxious.
6. Procrastination
The hardest part of a task is starting it.
Try this:
5 minute rule – If you’re putting something off, just commit to working on it for 5 minutes. (You’ll see how, after those 5 minutes, it becomes much easier to keep going.)
7. Comparison
Comparison leads to rushed goals, dissatisfaction with life and a sense of inadequacy.
Try this:
Every morning when you wake up and before going to bed, express gratitude for 10 things about yourself and your life.
8. Giving Up
The only way to guarantee failure is by quitting. Simply staying in the game long enough will put you ahead of most people.
Try this:
Commit to something and give your friend $100. If you quit, they get to keep the money.
